My process involved many hours in observation–of myself (emotions, how my body felt, what thoughts I was having) and my surroundings (what noises, textures, and sights stood out to me and why?) This time spent in observation was appropriate for the construction of my story because each element of the narrative touches on the idea of taking notice.

To me, the final product of this project (in the form it is in now as well as whatever form it takes later) is as much the time spent in observation and exploration and change in direction as it is the final visualizations and sonification. This was all about processing difficult and subjective parts of what has become such a large part of my life, and attempting to communicate that to others.

Design

Data visualizations:
The incorporation of neuron imagery and a neutral color palette with bright accent colors.

Shapes representing how emotions feel for me, ranging from sharp and frazzled to round and stable.

Sonification video:
Comprised of personal photo and video footage taken during the month of the sonification. The video footage represents non-migraine days while the still photography details the migraine days and their intensity.

Website design: (Representing my mind and the migraine experience.)
The moving video in the background and annotations/thoughts overlapping the data visualizations hint at the chaos of the migraine experience - many moving parts contributing to a sensory overload.

These context pages have a stark plainness in contrast to the movement and chaos of the project page - this is to juxtapose the profound loneliness and boredom I feel during consistent migraines with the complexity of the migraine itself.
